SUMMARY:Insights into the Theater der Welt Festival - monthly talk series
DESCRIPTION:How does one create art in a country at war? What role do hist
ory and memory play in understanding the present? And what remains of a pe
rson when history is taken from them? The author Sofia Andruchowytsch will
discuss these and other current issues with the director Dušan David Pař
ízek on 26 May as part of the event series “Insights into the Theater d
er Welt Festival”.\nSofia Andruchowytsch is one of Ukraine’s most impo
rtant literary voices. In her highly acclaimed novel trilogy “Amadoka”
\, she weaves together the personal stories of three women\, spanning an e
ntire century of Ukrainian history. Memory as something that can be manipu
lated or even erased is one of the central themes in her books.\nCzech dir
ector Dušan David Pařízek is bringing “Amadoka” to the stage in a t
heatrical adaptation featuring an outstanding ensemble of Prague-based act
ors. Following its world premiere on 1 April 2026 at the Divadlo X10 theat
re in Prague\, the production – a co-production with the Theater der Wel
t festival – will come to Chemnitz on 27 and 28 June. Dušan David Paří
zek\, known for his theatre work in Hamburg\, Vienna and Zurich\, has deli
berately chosen to stage this material in his homeland.\nThe evening will
be hosted by Stefan Schmidtke and Dr Christoph Dittrich\, the artistic dir
ectors of the Theater der Welt Chemnitz 2026 festival. The discussion will
take place in English and will be simultaneously interpreted into German.
